The UC2874N-2 is a high performance DC–DC switching controller. This type of feedback control is used to regulate the output voltage of a power converter. Working Principle
The UC2874N-2 works on the principle of feedback control. Whenever the output voltage of a DC–DC converter changes, the feedback loop takes the updated voltage measurement and sends a corresponding current through the shunt resistor. This impulse is then received by an error amplifier which compares the measured voltage to a reference voltage, and adjusts the output accordingly.
The UC2874N-2 also monitors the output current, and can activate a protection circuit if the current exceeds the configured current limit. This process is known as foldback and results in a reduction in output voltage, thus avoiding any damage to the transformer.
The UC2874N-2 also has temperature protection and current-mode control with a wide range of selectable bandwidths, allowing improved designs in terms of dynamic performance and efficiency. With the current-mode control, the UC2874N-2 is able to accurately control the output voltage regardless of changes in input voltage, load or temperature.
