UC3524ADWG4 Application Field and Working Principle

UC3524ADWG4 is a peak-current-mode voltage regulator and DC-DC switching controller which is classified as PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuits) and Voltage Regulators, more specifically as DC-DC Switching Controllers. Developed as one of UC3524 family members, UC3524ADWG4 has been predominantly used in general purpose application and high power, high efficiency applications and is an intelligent controller that helps drives forms processes or functions-operations with fewer components and high performance.

Working Principle

The UC3524ADWG4 is a current-mode, voltage regulator and DC-DC switching controller which utilizes peak current mode control integration and dedicated loop compensation to achieve accurate regulation with low supply current. The setpoint accuracy is 1.5% over temperature variations, with line regulation better than 0.07%, and load regulation better than 0.1%. This highly integrated controller provides a single supply operating voltage between 3.35 V and 10.2 V, to power both the regulator and its associated circuitry over a wide range of input supply voltages.

It incorporates current signals provided by a current sense amplifier and voltage signals provided by an internal voltage reference or a resistor divider connected to the output. An internal band gap reference provides absolute accuracy and temperature stability of regulation. Protection features include over current and over voltage, both of which are programmable.

The device automatically switches to Pulse-Frequency-Modulation (PFM) operation at light loads, to maintain high efficiency of the supply. It also contains a power-good monitor, which changes its state depending on the output voltage variations or faults in the output. Furthermore, the controller has a low supply current typically in the range of 125 μA, so no additional external transistor is required for shutdown.
