The UC3526DW integrated circuit (IC) is a DC/DC Switching Controller designed for use in controlling wide variety of applications such as power supplies and voltage regulators. Based on a self-biasing approach, it is also suitable for step-down/up dc-to-dc converters, resonant converters, isolated converters, and synchronous rectifiers. The device provides Maximum Power Point (MPP) Tracking in systems that are powered by solar energy or other renewable sources. It has multiple operating modes, including cycle-by-cycle current limit, frequency modulation, reset current limit, and voltage regulation. It also features a preset current limit and fault protection capabilities such as cycle slip, protect bad, over-temperature, and under-voltage protection, making it an ideal solution for a wide range of power management applications.

Working Principle of the UC3526DW

The UC3526DW has a wide operating voltage range, allowing it to be used for both step-down and step-up DC-to-DC conversion. It is capable of driving external MOSFET switching transistors with frequencies of up to 20MHz and with operating duty cycles ranging from 0 - 100%. When the operating frequency is set higher than the oscillator’s clock frequency, the device switches at the rate of the oscillator’s clock. When the operating frequency is set lower than the clock frequency, the device switches at the rate of the operating frequency.
