UC3526ANG4 is an advanced pulse width modulation (PWM) controller capable of producing a highly accurate output voltage or current over a wide range of input voltages and loads. This product is well suited for use in applications ranging from isolated power supply control, test and measurement equipment and telecom power systems. The output control function is realized through a minimum number of external components. By varying the external components, both single and dual polarity supplies can be constructed. Working principle
The pulse width modulation principle is used to control the output voltage and current of the UC3526ANG4. The input voltage (Vin) is applied to the PWM, and a feedback signal is provided to ensure that the output voltage (Vout) is in regulation. If the Vout is higher than the required value, the duty cycle pulse of the PWM decreases as the voltage error increases, until the error reaches zero and Vout is in regulation again. Conversely, when Vout is lower than the desired setting, the duty cycle pulse increases until the error is reduced to zero again. The UC3526ANG4 also has a soft-start feature which helps to reduce the inrush current when the output load is switched on.
The UC3526ANG4 can also be used for synchronous rectification, where two output MOSFETs are driven by the PWM output. In this case, one MOSFET is used for the active switch, and the other for the freewheeling diode. When the active switch turns on, the energy stored in the high inductance of the transformer is delivered to the primary winding and the freewheeling diode passes the flyback current. When the MOSFET turns off, the energy in the transformer winding is recovered into the secondary, and the freewheeling diode is reverse biased, blocking the current in the primary winding.
