The UC3573N is a predictable current mode, fixed frequency, quasi-resonant-mode pulse width modulation (QR-PWM) switching regulator controller designed for switched-mode power supplies (SMPS) and general-purpose DC-to-DC conversion. The device operates in the predictable current mode that combines the attributes of traditional current-mode and voltage mode control. It includes built in slope compensation and pulse-width modulation (PWM) to prevent subharmonic oscillations that may occur when higher values of the output capacitance or inductance are used.

The UC3573N switching regulator controller is integrated with various protection circuits and soft-start functions to ensure safe operation of the switching power supply. It includes self-protection such as a precise under-voltage lockout (UVLO) circuit, over-current protection (OCP), and over-temperature protection (OTP) circuits. The coupled flip-flop and logic latch features provide reliable user interface control.

This control signal is fed to the driver stage, which then gives the necessary switching signal to the connected transistor switch.

The UC3573N also features a slow start function. This is implemented to provide a soft start to the power supply and to limit the inrush current when the power is applied. This feature is implemented by connecting an external capacitor to the SS pin and the GND of the IC. The capacitor is connected in parallel with the external resistors placed along the CS (compensation) pin of the IC. The SS pin takes the reference voltage from the output voltage and compares it with the voltage produced by the current in the external capacitor, thus giving the necessary ramp current.

Overall, the UC3573N is a versatile and reliable switching regulator controller that can be used for a variety of power supply topologies. It is integrated with various protection circuits and soft-start functions to ensure safe operation of the switching power supply and to provide predictable and accurate current control.
