UCC2800PW

The UCC2800PW is a member of the switched-mode power supply (SMPS) controller family from TI. Unlike the conventional linear voltage regulator, the SMPS controller works at much higher frequency and delivers output power with better efficiency and smaller size. UCC2800PW is a high-performance wide input voltage range DC-DC controller with single output. It can accept a high input voltage range of 8V to 75V and deliver an accurately regulated output voltage of 1.2V to 75V.

The UCC2800PW is designed to operate up to 500KHz and with a maximum duty cycle of 90%. It can be constructed as a step down, step up, inverting or SEPIC power supply. With its high switching frequency, UCC2800PW enables to build switch-mode power supplies with high power density and low power losses. UCC2800PW features a low quiescent current of 6.5mA and consumes less than 1.5W power at 100mV Vref setting (typ). It also has Voltage Feed Forward Mode and Other Pulsed Load Mode for input voltage correction.

UCC2800PW has a wide application field in industrial, automotive, consumer and telecom point-of-load (POL) applications. The working principle of the UCC2800PW is based on the Buck mode of operation. In Buck mode, output voltage is regulated by controlling the duty cycle of the switching transistor. It consists of a ramp generator, an error amplifier and a pulse width modulator block. The ramp generator produces a triangle waveform which is compared with the error amplifier (E/A)comparator\'s output. The E/A is the heart of the control loop and the duty cycle depends on the comparator\'s output.

The UCC2800PW uses a voltage feed forward mechanism to improve the line regulation. This voltage feed forward will act to reduce the output voltage whenever the input voltage increases. The output voltage will also be less likely to be affected by changes in output load current. UCC2800PW can also operate in other modes such as SEPIC, Flyback and Boost, with only few external components required.
