Power Factor Correction (PFC) is a technique used by power supplies to improve the power efficiency of load circuits. This technique optimizes the power utilization by adjusting the timing of when power is generated and consumed - resulting in improved efficiency and reduced power consumption. The UCC28019AP also includes additional features such as soft start, over temperature protection, open loop protection and over voltage protection. The soft start feature allows the PFC controller to start up the system in a gradual manner, while the over temperature protection feature monitors the temperature of the PFC controller and turns off the system when the temperature threshold is reached. The over voltage protection feature turns off the system when the output voltage exceeds the upper limit. Open loop protection prevents current spikes in the circuit and helps maximize the power efficiency of the system.
