Power management integrated circuits (PMICs) are a diverse and complex family of integrated circuits (ICs) used to manage the power in modern electronic devices. Power management circuitry can range from simple LDOs to complex DC–DC converters. AC/DC converters, also known as offline switches, are used to convert AC line voltage to regulated DC supplies. The UCC2808ADTR-1 is a family of programmable, offline buck current mode regulators for AC-DC applications.The UCC2808ADTR-1 is a family of 8-pin devices that implement a single-channel, current-mode pulse-width modulation (PWM) control scheme. Like many other current-mode PWM controllers, the UCC2808ADTR-1 uses hysteretic control architecture to provide fast load transient response. The device includes many protection features, including surge protection, brownout protection, over-voltage protection, thermal shutdown, and maximum on time protection.The UCC2808ADTR-1 is suitable for applications with high input voltages up to 265VAC and can support output power levels up to 380W. These devices have an adjustable output voltage range of 5V to 500V and an adjustable switching frequency range of 40kHz to 200kHz. The UCC2808ADTR-1 can also be configured to provide an isolated output with a wide selection of secondary side rectifier MOSFET sizes. The UCC2808ADTR-1 combines a high-voltage pre-bias startup circuit, a high-voltage power switch, and a control IC into a single package. The pre-bias circuit starts up the device from a cold condition by generating a small continuous current to the control IC. This relatively low current eliminates the need for a high-voltage start-up circuit, reducing device size and cost.The UCC2808ADTR-1\'s control IC features a constant off-time hysteretic control architecture for fast load transient response. The output voltage is compared to an internally generated sawtooth waveform. When the output voltage rises higher than the sawtooth waveform, the IC turns off the power switch and the output voltage drops until it is lower than the sawtooth waveform. This forces the output voltage to follow the sawtooth waveform. The average voltage is regulated by adjusting the off-time period of the sawtooth waveform.The UCC2808ADTR-1 integrates many protection functions to protect the power supply and downstream components. Overload protection limits the output voltage and current when the load is increased excessively. Over-voltage protection (OVP) shuts down the circuit if the output voltage exceeds a certain limit. The UCC2808ADTR-1 also has an adjustable brown-out protection that reduces the output voltage when an AC line fault is detected. In addition, the device includes a maximum on-time protection that limits the maximum amount of time the power switch is allowed to stay on continuously.The UCC2808ADTR-1 has a wide range of applications, including home appliance power supplies, motor control, and industrial power supplies. The device is a good choice for applications that require high efficiency, wide output voltage range, and fast load transients. The device\'s protection features and pre-bias startup circuit also make it a good choice for applications that require reliable operation and enhanced safety.
