UCC28512N Application Field and Working PrinciplePower Factor Correction (PFC) is an electronic technology for ensuring a consistent and efficient power supply for modern electrical applications. An important part of the PFC process is the provision of a Power Factor Controller (PFC) which optimises the Voltage Correction Circuit (VCC) and the current waveform. The UCC28512N is a powerful PFC controller used for commercial and residential applications alike.The UCC28512N is a single phase, PFC controller from Texas Instruments and is part of the UCC Series of low-power PFC controllers. Specifically, the UCC28512N is a step-down converter. It is used to adjust the power factor of a power supply to ensure that it meets the requirements of the National Electrical Code (NEC). The UCC28512N is designed to meet stability and performance requirements of commercial applications, but can also be used in residential applications.The UCC28512N provides two phases, On-Time and Off-Time, of power factor control, which are optimized for high efficiency and fast transient response. The UCC28512N has an integrated, wide-range, copper-based gate driver with over 1.2 A peak output to ensure that the power components can safely switch at high frequencies and deliver high efficiency.The UCC28512N features a comprehensive diagnostic system including short circuit protection, over-temperature protection, over-voltage protection and under-voltage protection. Additional features include an internal soft-start, open-loop and close-loop operation, regulation voltage accuracy of 1 %, and line-current sensing up to 100 A.The highly optimized UCC28512N is particularly useful for cost-sensitive applications, as it offers an attractive option for high-efficiency, low-cost, and fast-transient-control applications.
