The UCC3585D is a cost-effective solution to enable the design of power supply systems. It is an Integrated Circuit (IC) DC-to-DC switching controller which is classified under Power Management ICs (PMICs) and is a type of Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Controllers.
The UCC3585D features two PWM outputs in fixed frequency mode, Current Mode (CM) control, an Enable pin with hysteresis, a logic ground return, a shutdown pin for undervoltage and overvoltage protection, a logic ground return, a bias supply voltage of 1.5 V and TJ > 150°C junction temperature, Level 6 1-kV ESD rated, and high-speed gate outputs. It can be used in a variety of applications such as Distributed Power Systems, Inverters and Motor Drives, Switch Mode Power Supplies for Communication Equipment, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, and Battery Charging Systems.
The working principle of the UCC3585D is based on the Control Loop. The Control Loop consists of several critical components and their linear regions, such as the Error Amplifier, Current Sense Amplifier, Voltage Reference, and PWM comparator. The device is designed to be driven directly from the transformer secondary winding, and the output is the sum of the primary winding of the transformer and the output of the Error Amplifier. The Error Amplifier is a precise amplifier whose outputs are connected to the PWM comparator, which regulates the output voltage according to the input voltage. If a change in the input voltage is detected, the Error Amplifier and PWM comparator adjust their output accordingly. The output of the Current Sense Amplifier (CS) and Voltage reference block, is also connected to the PWM comparator. When a certain peak current is reached, the CS provides a signal, that is in proportion to the level of current, to the PWM comparator. There is also an overvoltage and an undervoltage detection circuit, which continuously monitors the output voltage and shuts down the system in case of overvoltage or an undervoltage charge. Thus, the UCC3585D is designed to regulate the output voltage to a pre-set level for continuous operation.
