UCC3819D Application Field and Working Principle

UCC3819D is an 8-pin PMIC - PFC (Power Factor Correction) controller with N-channel MOSFET drivers, which is suitable for a wide input voltage range of up to 500V DC. It is an ideal solution for switched-mode power supply (SMPS) applications with limited board space.With its high power factor and high efficiency, UCC3819D features two types of SMPS topologies, namely single-stage PFC and two-stage PFC. Both topologies are designed to meet strict EMC standards such as EN61000-3-2 and EMI requirements. The single-stage PFC requires minimum external components, while the two-stage PFC employs additional components for improved N-channel MOSFET drivers to reduce switching losses and boost efficiency.The UCC3819D integrates an advanced active voltage compensation (AVC) feature that ensures correct and precise control of the power factor and input current waveform. This feature eliminates the need for an additional current sense resistor, reduces the system BOM cost and provides improved power factor under light load conditions. The UCC3819D\'s main operating principle is based on a variable duty cycle PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control. It is configured to respond to the input voltage with a view to achieving the best power factor possible. It adjusts the Pulse Width Modulation duty cycle in order to maintain the input voltage at its predetermined level while also regulating the output of the inverter.The UCC3819D also features a power good signal that indicates when the output of the inverter is within the required range.
