UCC3961D is a type of DC-DC switching controller, which belongs to the category of Voltage Regulators in the field of Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMICs). It is a fixed-frequency switching controller with low-ripple force-induced sleep mode. UCC3961D consists of a low-ripple linear regulator, an oscillator, a fixed frequency PWM controller, a pulse strecher and a power MOS driver.
The linear regulator builds a reference voltage of 2.5V, as the regulation of output voltage, and provides the voltage with relatively low noise. The oscillator is a free-running digital circuit, generating a fixed frequency clock which is used as the switching rate of the power MOS switch. The PWM controller is based on this digital frequency, integrating a voltage feedback comparison circuit and a dead-time-adjustable PWM generator. The pulse strecher extends the off-time of the switch, allowing it to work in the soft-start and integral-cycle-by-cycle current-limiting modes. A MOS driver is a high-voltage, high-current capacity circuit, networked right before the power MOS switch, enabling the reliable operation of the power MOS switch under harsh conditions.
UCC3961D is featured with accurate, high-precision control of output voltage, wide-range voltage regulation, superior power conversion efficiency, protection against input and output overvoltage, and various fault conditions. With its built-in hysteretic current loop, it is able to provide accurate feedback control even with a highly-regulated input voltage. It also operates with input voltages ranging from 4.5V to 32V, enabling the power switch drives discrete MOSFETs or NFETs.
UCC3961D can be used for a wide range of applications including buck converters, forward converters, flyback converters, or other DC-DC converters. In buck converters, UCC3961D supports input voltage above and below the output voltage, while offering maximum output current up to 6A and wide-range protection function. It is also able to process high switching frequency, supporting up to 2MHz, but expecting the external components to work properly and without interference.
