Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are non-polarized capacitors with a wide variety of applications and usage. Aluminium electrolytic capacitors are widely used for energy storage, high-frequency filtering, smoothing, and energy conversion. They have the advantages of small physical size, high capacitance, and high ripple current capability. The UMT1HR47MCD2TP is one such aluminum electrolytic capacitor.The UMT1HR47MCD2TP is a radial aluminium electrolytic capacitor with a long life, large capacitance, and a voltage rating of 50V. It is mainly applicable for audio signals, power supply filtering, and DC blocking. The working principle of an aluminum-electrolytic capacitor is based on two dissimilar metals that are separated by a dielectric. It consists of two layers of aluminum foil which are rolled and then impregnated by an electrolyte, gelling its surface with a thin insulating film. This thin film acts as the dielectric between the two metal layers. When a voltage is applied across a capacitor, the electric field polarizes the thin film and provides the dielectric strength. This electric field causes the formation of an oxide layer between the two electrodes, creating a barrier between the two metal layers. The oxide layer then increases breakdown strength, enables higher capacitance ratings, and more stability of the device. Furthermore, the UMT1HR47MCD2TP is manufactured using an additional guard structure. This guard structure helps to increase the capacitance values for the same size compared to conventional devices, and also adds to the reliability and long-term stability of the capacitor. The UMT1HR47MCD2TP also features an operating temperature range of -40°C to + 105°C, a capacitance range of 47µF to 10000µF, and ripple current ratings of up to 3.2 A (0.63 V).
