Introduction

An Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor, also known as an Aluminium Electrolyte Capacitor, or Al-EleCap, is one of the most commonly used capacitors amongst the electronic infrastructure of advanced and modern products. It is made of two aluminum foil elements with an anode and electrolytic composition material between them. The history of this type of capacitor dates back to the 1950s, before which capacitors were made out of mica or tantalum.

Application Fields

Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors are mainly used in the automotive, industrial, medical and consumer electronics application. In automobile electronics, the capacitor is commonly used to provide the pulse power needed to start a car engine, and also serves as the energy storage device in the electronic ignition system.

In industrial electronics, Al-EleCap is often used to reduce the current harmonics and peak of the power sources, and provides a proper power-up times for sensitive devices sensitive to surges. They are also ideally utilized in AM broadcasting, power supplies, and renewable energy equipment.

In medical applications, based on their properties, some Al-EleCap capacitors can be used in a blood filtration pump, providing a pressurized flow of fluids. In addition, they can also be used in Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems.

In consumer electronics, Al-EleCap capacitors are impervious to shock and vibration, which makes them perfect for applications in mobile electronics. Working Principle

The working principle of the Al-EleCap lies in the electric fields created between the anode and electrolyte layer. When the capacitor is on idle state, the electrons from the electrolyte are attracted by the positive anode, forming a conductive medium between the two foil layers. This allows the capacitor to store charge and collect electricity.

When the capacitor is supplying electricity, electrons are released and flow through the circuit. The alternating current reverses the charge in the capacitor, causing the flow of electrons to stop. As a result, a voltage drop is created in the circuit, and the energy stored in the capacitor is slowly discharged to the load.
