URZ2A3R3MDD Application Field and Working Principle

The applications of Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors are mainly confined to the fields of radio, television, audio equipment and measuring instruments, etc. URZ2A3R3MDD class of capacitor is widely used in power supplies and silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) applications.

The body of URZ2A3R3MDD Aluminum electrolytic capacitor consists of a rigid aluminum casing that is lined on the inside surface with an electrolytic paper. On top of the paper a long strip of cathode-anode material is tightly clamped. The terminals passing through a small hole, sealed with metal cap, on the end of the can are hooked up to an electric circuit.

The capacitor works on the principle of having two oppositely charged plates separated by an electrolyte and a dielectric material, or ‘insulating layer’. In a capacitor, the electric charge accumulates onto one plate, which becomes positive, while the other plate builds a negative charge. This charge buildup creates the capacitance. As the electrolyte and dielectric, the aluminum electrolytic capacitor uses a combination of an electrolyte – an electrically conductive liquid – and an alternatively electrolyte-soaked paper-based material. The paper layer works as a separator, thus, it filters out impurities.
