When a rectifier diode conducts, current starts flowing through the P-type region and the reverse voltage drops to a minimum, allowing for essentially unrestricted current to flow. During the off phase, the voltage across the diode reverses, forcing current to cease flowing.

When reverse recovery (tRR) happens, the US1GHR3G diode is still in a conductive state, but the current suddenly decreases.
