UVK1A473MRD Application Field and Working Principle

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in power electronics because of their high capacitance performance. The UVK1A473MRD series are a type of aluminum electrolytic capacitor that use a corrosion-resistant sintered anode in combination with a non-polar electrolyte to achieve capacitance ranges from 4.7 uF to 330 uF with a voltage rating from 50 volts up to 500 volts.These capacitors are commonly used in applications that require filtering, smoothing, or decoupling of DC voltage and AC mains signals.

Working Principle

An aluminum electrolytic capacitor consists of two aluminum foils which have been separated and rolled around a paper spacer. The anode foil is treated to provide a rough surface which increases the contact area between the anode and the electrolyte. The cathode foil is the plain aluminum foil. To assemble the capacitor, these two foils are wound around the paper spacer and the electrolyte is added between the two foils. An electric current flows through the capacitor when the capacitor is connected to a voltage source, and this current creates an electric field between the anode and the cathode which causes the aluminum foils to form electric double layers.

When the voltage source is disconnected, the electric current stops flowing and the electric field between the foils dissipates. This causes the capacitor to discharge, reducing the electric potential between the anode and the cathode to zero. The discharge process will continue until the electric potential between the two foils is completely zero. The time it takes for this process to happen is known as the “RC time constant”.

The UVK1A473MRD series of aluminum electrolytic capacitors are designed to provide low impedance to filter and smooth both DC and AC signals. The low equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the UVK1A473MRD series makes them an ideal choice for applications such as power supply decoupling, energy storage, DC/AC inverters, PWM regulators, and spike suppression.

In addition to its low ESR, the UVK1A473MRD series also offers a wide range of capacitance ratings from 4.7 uF to 330 uF, making it ideal for both high and low capacitance applications.
