TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressors), Varistors, and MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors) are electronic components used in power supply circuits as surge suppressors. These components are used to protect the power system and its components from various types of overvoltage conditions. The V47ZC3P is part of the series of Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) devices developed by Littelfuse, a well-known manufacturer of circuit protection components. The V47ZC3P is a bi-directional, Low Capacitance, axial leaded ESD Suppressor designed to be used in applications where high reliability is critical. It provides a robust, three terminal suppression component that will meet the requirements of MIL-STD-1686, Class 3 Speed 1 requirements. The V47ZC3P is designed to be used in environments where it is necessary to protect circuits from high-voltage transients while not increasing the capacitance of the circuit.

One of the benefits of the V47ZC3P is the fact that it is bi-directional and can handle both Positive and Negative transients. It is capable of suppressing voltage surges up to 40 V in either direction. This means that it is able to protect circuits from high voltage transients from both the input and the output. It also has a very low Clamping Voltage, meaning that it will only let a very small amount of transient energy pass through to the circuit. It also has very low leakage current, ensuring that the circuit is not exposed to excessive amounts of power.

The working principle of the V47ZC3P is based on a Zener diode / Varistor combination. A Zener diode is a semiconductor diode that will allow current to pass in either direction, depending on the voltage applied to it.
