Working Principle

The VQ1004P-E3 MOSFET is a three terminal device with a source (S), drain (D) and gate (G) terminal. This electric field modulates the conductivity of the channel, thus controlling the amount of current that can flow through the device. When a negative voltage is applied to the gate terminal, the device is said to be in depletion mode. This increases the barrier between the source and drain, thus reducing the drain current.

The drain-source on-resistance of the MOSFET is determined by the integrated carrier concentration of electrons in the channel region. A higher concentration of electrons will result in higher on-resistance, thus reducing the drain current.
