A voltage reference, also known as a reference voltage source or reference element, is an electronic component or integrated circuit that produces a voltage output that remains constant even when the power supply or circuit loading changes. The essential purpose of a voltage reference is to provide a stable, known voltage value to other components of a circuit. Any change in the applied voltage or current conditions in the circuit will not have an effect on the reference output. Voltage references are also known as bandgap references, as they make use of the positive temperature characteristic of diode leakage currents to form an on-chip temperature-stable reference voltages.

A VRE305JS Voltage Reference combined with an adjustable current source is the PMIC component of choice for medium power-sensitive applications such as low voltage power supplies, overvoltage protection, and LED drivers. The working principle of the VRE305JS is based on a linear voltage regulator topology.
