Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in industry and consumer electronics to provide a buffering effect from power surges, voltage spikes and other sudden voltage changes. The WBR1-50A is a type of aluminum electrolytic capacitor that is ideal for use in industrial applications, including inverters, motor drives, DC power supply, induction heating, welding machines and UPS. It has superior high-temperature performance, high capacitance, and long life.

The WBR1-50A belongs to a family of aluminum electrolytic capacitors that employs liquid electrolyte construction instead of solid, wound, or polymer dielectric. This liquid electrolyte is usually a mixture of boric acid, water, and other chemicals that help to increase the capacitor’s capacitance, reduce ESR and impedance, increase temperature stability, and extend the life of the capacitor. This type of capacitor is specifically designed to provide high ripple current and wide operating temperature range.

The capacitance of the WBR1-50A can range from 20µF to 2,200µF (micro farads) and its voltage rating can range from 16V up to 450V. In terms of construction, the WBR1-50A is constructed with lead-free tin-plated terminals and wrap-around tags. This allows for easy soldering, mounting, and insertion into other devices and circuits. Additionally, the WBR1-50A features a hermetically sealed aluminum can for protection against external contaminants and corrosion. The total leakage current of these capacitors is also extremely low, making them suitable for various high power applications such as in mission-critical equipment.

In terms of its size, the WBR1-50A is available in three different sizes: D10, D16 and D20. These sizes refer to the diameter of the can (in millimeters) which can be matched with the space requirements of other parts. For additional protection, the terminals of the WBR1-50A are soldered to the terminals of the circuit board directly. This not only increases the breakout force of the terminals, but also prevents displacements due to vibration.

The working principle of the WBR1-50A is based on the principles of electrical charge separation and capacitance storage. The capacitor is made from two positive and two negative aluminum plates which are separated by a thin layer of electrolyte. When a voltage is applied across the capacitor, a charge imbalance occurs at the molecular level resulting in an electric field. This electric field is responsible for storing electrical energy in the form of energy between the two aluminum plates and is measured as the capacitance of the capacitor.

The WBR1-50A is a versatile aluminum electrolytic capacitor that can be used in numerous applications including inverters, motor drives, DC power supply, induction heating, welding machines and UPS.
