System On Chip (SoC)

System on chip, or SoC for short, is a complete computer system on a single chip. It integrates numerous components that would have been separate in a traditional computer, such as microprocessor, memory and digital signal processing (DSP) circuitry, into a single integrated circuit package. SoC combines different components from various fields of embedded engineering, such as digital electronics and embedded systems design, into a single device. The XCZU11EG-L1FFVC1156I is a member of the Xilinx family of SoCs.

XCZU11EG-L1FFVC1156I Application Field

The XCZU11EG-L1FFVC1156I contains two ARM® Cortex®-A53 MPCore CPU processing cores that offer 32-bit floating-point support, as well as high performance memory with up to 30MB of 16GBPS (gigabytes per second) DDR3 capable of providing an average bandwidth of over 1TB/s (terabytes per second). These features make it an excellent choice for a broad range of industrial and consumer applications, such as communication systems, automotive and automotive battery management, internet of things, smart homes and office, medical devices, and numerous other data-sensitive applications. With the integrated TEAX-5 security engine, the XCZU11EG-L1FFVC1156I is also suitable for mission-critical applications that demand a high level of security, such as automotive and defense.

Working Principle

The XCZU11EG-L1FFVC1156I consists of a tightly integrated System on Chip (SoC) that combine a dual ARM Cortex-A53 MPCore and a rich set of peripheral components that allow seamless integration into your application. It includes a high performance hardware architecture, with a 16-bit multiplier, a FPU and SIMD instructions, and a wide range of optimized peripherals and interfaces. Along with CPU processing and peripherals, the SoC also contains analog components and power management circuitry, offering the flexibility, scalability, and power-efficiency necessary to handle a wide variety of embedded applications under harsh environmental conditions, such as automotive and medical applications.

The ARM® Cortex®-A53 MPCore core is the central unit of the SoC, consisting of two identical processing cores allowing full symmetrical multi-threading. It supports ARMv8 ISA, optimized for 32-bit and 64-bit performance, with an optional TrustZone® secure enclave providing extra protection to applications and system data. Each core is capable of up to 1.3GHz operating frequency in its turbo mode, with 4MB of L1 cache and sixteen banks of 32KB of tightly-coupled memory per core.

The TEAX-5 security engine provides a secure layer that controls access to protected resources and prevents attempts to read or alter the system or application data. Furthermore, the wide range of optimised I/O peripherals make it an extremely versatile SoC for a variety of applications, such as high performance multimedia, display and audio processing, communication and control.

The XCZU11EG-L1FFVC1156I combines ARM® Cortex®-A53 MPCore, TEAX-5 security engine, rich set of peripherals, a high performance hardware architecture, with a wide range of optimised I/O peripherals, to form an SoC ideally suited for a wide range of embedded applications, from communication systems to automotive and medical appliances, and internet of things.
