The ZXSC100N8TC is a DC-DC switching controller which forms part of a larger power-management IC (PMIC) range. This controller is designed with an advanced gate drive circuit and pre-bias start-up, providing a power conversion solution for telecom, enterprise server and long distance transmission applications. The working principle of the ZXSC100N8TC is based on high-speed current-mode control. The converter is driven by a clock signal, allowing the controller to switch rapidly depending on the input voltage and output current. It switches on and off in response to the sensed output current, allowing it to maintain the desired output voltage. A feedback loop is used to ensure the output voltage remains within an acceptable range.
When a lower output voltage is required, the on-time of the current-mode driver is reduced, thereby reducing the output power. At the same time, the off-time is increased, allowing the converter to recover energy from the mating transformer’s inductive load. In order to maintain a constant output voltage, the duty cycle parameter is adjusted depending on the average current being drawn.
