The ADM1278-3ACPZ is an integrated, low-power hot-swap controller that provides both AC and DC electrical protection in high-performance power systems. It offers an efficient and cost effective solution for managing DC and AC power delivery in any high-performance computing system or device. Used in a variety of applications, the ADM1278-3ACPZ can be used to provide hot-swap protection and voltage regulation to ensure that sensitive components and devices are not damaged by unexpected or uncontrolled electrical surges or power cycle events. The ADM1278-3ACPZ supports both AC and DC protection zones, enabling it to manage power delivery in AC and DC systems with differing rail voltages. Using a combination of active voltage monitoring and accurate current sensing, the ADM1278-3ACPZ enables the system designer to effectively shut down the power supply for each protection zone when the desired maximum current is exceeded. The ADM1278-3ACPZ also provides the ability to latch-off and parry an overload if it occurs over a predetermined period. Voltage regulation is achieved using a master output control switch and is based on feedback from pin-selectable references or direct module feedback, enabling the system designer to precisely set the desired voltage.
In addition to AC/DC protection, the ADM1278-3ACPZ includes a wide range of integrated features such as an overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit, overcurrent protection (OCP) circuit, and thermal protection circuit. The OVP circuit actively monitors the output rail and will trigger an immediate shutdown when a voltage exceeding the set threshold is detected. The OCP circuit also works in conjunction with the OVP circuit to provide delayed protection against accidental overload situations. The thermal protection circuit is used to ensure that the device will remain within its operating temperature limits which prevents overheat situations caused by sustained current overloads.
The ADM1278-3ACPZ is available with a range of I2C, SMBus, and PMBus compatible interfaces enabling integration into any system design.
