Working Principle |
An aluminum electrolytic capacitor consists of several layers of an aluminum foil and a separator soaked in an electrolyte. In the process of manufacturing, the aluminum electrolytic capacitor is rolled to form a cylindrical structure which contains two electrodes. One of the electrodes is in contact with the electrolyte and the other is insulated. The capacitor also contains two metal terminals which are connected to each of the electrodes. The free electrons in the electrons are attracted to the successive layers of aluminum foil to form an electric field.When a voltage is applied to the capacitor terminals, electrons will flow through the foil and into the electrolyte, which creates an electric field between the two electrodes. This electric field stores electrical energy and can be used to perform work. The capacitance of the capacitor is related to the surface area of the electrodes and the distance between them. The higher the capacitance, the greater the amount of electric energy that can be stored.Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are useful for their ability to store energy for a long period of time with a relatively low leakage current and high capacitance. In addition, they are relatively compact and lightweight. |
