Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, also known as wet tantalum capacitors, are Polarized capacitors with a larger physical size than their other capacitor counterparts. These capacitors are mainly used for high-frequency applications such as radio frequency, Telecom, Computers, Amplifier, Power supply, Power conditioning, Switch mode power supply, Motors, Audio-Display systems, DC-DC converters, Signal conditioners, Automotive applications and many more.Specifically, The capacitor 180MXC390MEFC22X25 is a member of the aluminum electrolytic capacitors, with an Industry Standard size of 22.5 mm diameter and a total height of 25 mm. This type of capacitor is most suitable for high frequency and high current applications such as motor starting, High frequency circuit, High current filtering, High voltage circuit, etc. It has a rated voltage of 450 volts and a capacitance of 390MFD with a long life expectancy of up to 7000hours.Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are mainly composed of metalized aluminum foil, a separator, electrolyte, core structure, case and terminal. The metalized aluminum foil acts as the anode and the core structure acts as a cathode with an insulator between them. The electrolyte is also used as an insulator and it absorbs into the special paper or plastic membrane between the electrodes. This forms two cylindrical capacitors which are then encased in a case and sealed with the terminals.When charged, the capacitor will store electricity in its electric field. The amount of charge stored depends on the size of the capacitor, the capacitance, and the voltage applied to it. When the voltage is applied, an electric current flows between the two electrodes, and the particles of electrolyte are positively charged and the negatively charged particles are repelled. This creates a separated electric field between the two electrodes and causes a charge to accumulate in the capacitor. The capacitor now acts as a storage unit, with a certain amount of charge stored and until the capacitor is discharged, the electric field in the capacitor will remain constant.When the capacitor is discharged, the stored charge is released into the circuit. The electric field in the capacitor will change and cause the electric current to drop. This has a stabilizing effect on the current, dampening any sudden changes in the current and preventing any spikes or surges in the current. This makes it ideal for power-supply regulation and pulse waveform shaping.Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in different applications due to their ability to store large amounts of energy, their ability to withstand high currents and voltage, and their long life expectancy. They are also relatively low-cost compared to other types of capacitors, making them an attractive component for design.
