1N960B application field and working principle
1N960B is an application-specific, single-level Zener diode. This component is commonly used for circuit protection, signal clipping, or voltage regulation in a variety of different electrical systems.The 1N960B Zener diode comprises of two independent elements in a single package, an anode and a cathode. A Zener voltage reference is attached to the anode which will not exceed a predetermined voltage value when the specified maximum power rating is applied to the diode. The circuit\'s regulating action is the result of a minority carrier injection (or breakdown) within the intrinsic region of the diode. When the diode is forward biased, the majority carriers of opposite type are accelerated into a depletion region. The minority carriers of opposite type will also be injected in the reverse direction at a rate inversely proportional to the applied voltage. As such, the built-in barrier between the n- and p-type regions will no longer exist, allowing the reverse current to flow. The magnitude of the current is dependent on the applied voltage.1N960B Zener diodes are commonly seen in a variety of electrical applications, such as:• Voltage regulation • Signal clipping • Power supply protection • Voltage reference • Overvoltage protection The diode can also be applied to limit the switching speed or reduce electrical noise in pulse circuitry. 1N960B Zener diodes also feature a breakdown voltage range from 5.1 V to 75 V with a maximum power dissipation rating of 0.5 W.
