Aluminum electrolytic capacitors consist of two aluminum foils with an insulating material (typically paper in an orange oil impregnated with) covering the aluminum plates called the so-called cathode electrolyte, which is in contact with an electrolyte (various organic solvents-based electrolyte) and a pressure-foil to form the positive pole. The so-called anode, and the other aluminum foil is the so-called cathode, each of the aluminum foils has a layer of oxide film on its surface. This oxide film acts as the dielectric and it is responsible for the capacitance of the capacitor. The oxide film also acts as an insulating layer between the anode and the cathode.
