Working Principle

The 420BXW47MEFC14.5X25 aluminum electrolytic capacitor works by using an oxide-coated aluminum foil as the electrodes. The oxide coating acts as the electrical insulator between the two electrodes while allowing for Farad electric charge to pass between them. A Farad is an extremely large unit of capacitance, often far larger than any device could typically provide. This charge is produced by the electrochemical reaction between the aluminum, the electrolyte, and the metal oxide layer.

When a voltage is applied across the terminals of the capacitor, a flow of electrons takes place. The flow of electrons creates a current which builds up a charge on the capacitor plates. The charge on the plates induces an electric field in the dielectric material which stores energy. As current builds on the capacitors plates, the opposing electric fields oppose it, thus creating capacitance.
