Aluminum electrolytic capacitors (sometimes abbreviated to ALCAP or EL-CAP) are one of the most common type of capacitor used in electronic circuits. They are a form of electrolytic capacitor, i.e. they contain an electrolyte as one of their electrical components and they use a metallic aluminum foil as the anode. ALCAPs are widely used in applications where high capacitance values, long life and low cost are required.
