AD5932YRUZ is an integrated circuit based on direct digital synthesis (DDS) technology, which is widely used in precision frequency control applications. It offers excellent phase noise levels, low phase distortion and fast transition times under various frequencies and stable output up to 170 MHz. The device is especially well suited for automotive, medical, industrial and communication applications.
Direct digital synthesis uses a digital discrete-frequency signal as an input to generate a sinusoidal or pulse-like output. This output is generated by a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) based on stored coefficients and a phase accumulator that control the rate at which the DAC updates its output. This DAC is usually followed by a low-pass filter to reduce the harmonics that would otherwise appear at the output. The coefficients in this case are determined by the specialized DDS chip, known as the AD5932YRUZ.
The AD5932YRUZ consists of a digital frequency control loop, consisting of an on-chip oscillator and an 8-bit frequency tuning word (FTW) register. The FTW register controls the frequency output by the chip, while the on-chip oscillator operates at a maximum frequency of 6.5 MHz and can be used to configure the chip for precise frequency control applications. Additionally, the chip also offers a programmable amplitude resolution of 1 LSB, facilitating control of the output signal amplitude with high accuracy.
The device also includes an on-chip phase accumulator, which allows the output frequency to be adjusted in precise 1 Hz steps, while the on-chip reference clock ensures a stable frequency output. The chip also has a built-in electronic steady-state stabilization circuit, allowing a low-distortion, low-noise signal to be output from the chip even when the frequency of the input signal is constantly changing.
The AD5932YRUZ is available in a variety of packages, and offers several other features, such as a programmable gain amplifier, wide voltage range operation and on-chip diagnostics. The device is well suited for applications such as frequency-synthesizer, frequency-hopping, digital-modulator and evaluator, and can also be used for frequency measurement and calibration.
