ADG5209FBRUZ Application Field and Working PrincipleThe ADG5209FBRUZ is an 8-channel, 2-to-1 multiplexer and demultiplexer. It is manufactured by Analog Devices, Inc. and widely used in a variety of applications, such as medical and industrial equipment, test and measurement systems, communication systems, automotive systems and consumer electronics. With this product, users can easily connect different circuitry without the need to switch circuit components. As a multiplexer, it can be used to route one of two signals (A and B) to an output (Y), depending on which select signal is applied to the select input (S). As a demultiplexer, it routes one of two signals (Y and B) to one of eight outputs (PQ0–PQ7), depending on which select signal is applied to the select input (S).The device is offered in a 75 mW, wide-operating-temperature range, 0.65 mm × 0.65 mm 16-lead, 0.4-mm pitch, 1.36-mm max height, WLCSP (HXG) package, which makes it both cost effective and space efficient.Features and BenefitsThe main features and benefits of the ADG5209FBRUZ 2-to-1 multiplexer/demultiplexer include:• High ON resistance of 35 Ω to ON resistance flatness between channels. • Low OFF leakages of –100 nA to –300 nA. • Logic level range at supply voltage of 2.7 V to 5.5 V. • Low power consumption of 75 mW. • Operating temperature range of 40°C to 125°C. • Packaging available in a 0.65 mm × 0.65 mm, 16-lead WLCSP (HXG).Working PrincipleThe ADG5209FBRUZ multiplexer/demultiplexer utilizes a proprietary Analog Devices process, CMOS-silicon–on–insulator (SOI), in its design. This SOI process provides high levels of logic compliance, low on–resistance variation between channels, and low off–leakage current values.In operation, the device selects one of two input signals (A and B) for the output (Y) when in multiplexer mode, or one of two input signals (Y and B) for one of the eight outputs (PQ0–PQ7) when in the demultiplexer mode. In both cases, the logic voltage level of the select input (S) determines the selection. In both modes, the device uses an n-channel field-effect transistor (FET) as the switch. When the select (S) voltage is in the high state, the A and B pins are disconnected and an n-channel FET is connected to the Y pin. In the low state, the A pin is connected to the Y pin, while the B pin is shunted to the low state. The device can also be used as an inverter when used in combination with other switches, amplifiers and buffers.
