This IMU is used for sensing angular rate in applications where performance and reliability are critical—such as in aerospace and mining applications.
The ADIS16060BCCZ integrates a high-performance angular rate gyroscope as well as offering a wide measurement range, programmable filters, and built-in temperature compensation. This IMU is highly reliable and has excellent long-term stability.
The ADIS16060BCCZ uses a three-axis rate gyro sensor and a built-in ASIC for signal conditioning and additional features. It offers a wide angular rate measurement range from ±250°/s to ±2000°/s. It also provides a range of programmable filters including low-pass, anti-aliasing, and other selectable filter designs. The temperature compensation ensures that the device can operate in extreme temperature environments up to +125°C.
The core of the gyroscope is a responsive sensing element mounted on a precision gimbal and suspended, allowing angular rate measurements made as the gimbal registers the angular movements of the sensor relative to the frame. When the sensor is in motion, solid-state gyroscopic forces act upon the gimbal and cause it to rotate in accordance with the angular rate of the surrounding environment. The rotation of the gimbal is registered by fine-tolerance encoders mounted to the device and used to generate angular rate values.
The output of the IMU is a conditioned analog voltage that is proportional to the rotation of the gyroscope. The conditioned output can be monitored continuously or read periodically to measure the angular rate of the device. This output signal is then sent to an external microcontroller for further processing.
