The ADIS16201CCCZ measures Linear Acceleration along the 3-axis - Pitch, Roll and Yaw. It also measures Tri-Axial Rotation Rate, Absolute Angular Position and Tri-Axial Magnetometer. Embedded electronics provide a 9-Axis MotionFusion algorithm and an Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS). The device also uses I2C and a Serial peripheral Interface (SPI) for communication.

To ensure precise motion measurements the ADIS16201CCCZ contains an embedded Gyroscope, Accelerometer, and Magnetometer. The Gyroscope measures the angular velocity of the device by detecting the amount of rotation about a given axis. It can measure the angular velocity in degrees per second or radians per second. The Accelerometer measures linear acceleration along the 3-axis which includes how fast an object is moving in a given direction. Additionally, the Magnetometer measures the magnetic field strength in Gauss with data accuracy up to 0.2 Gauss.

The combination of these three sensors produces a 9-axis MotionFusion data output which combines and compensates for non-linear and linear distortions. MotionFusion also helps to improve SNR and improves overall accuracy. The AHRS algorithm also helps to stabilize the orientation of the device in 6-degrees of freedom to report a stable attitude heading.

The Sensor Data Acquisition System (SDAS) within the ADIS16201CCCZ also enhances the user experience. It provides the ability to set output data rate and sample size, as well as allowing the user to select which sensors to be enabled. The SDAS also stores data and makes it accessible via I2C and SPI communication interfaces.
