Motion Sensors - Gyroscopes are used in a wide range of applications, such as inertial navigation, robotics, stabilizers, gaming equipment and consumer products. Among the various types of type of gyroscopes is the ADIS16260BCCZ, a single-axis gyroscope which features a high-performance signal processing ASIC, a three-axis magnetometer as well as an integrated temperature sensor and that operates at frequencies of up to 1.54kHz.
The ADIS16260BCCZ is capable of detecting and measuring angular rate changes in a single axis and can be used in a number of applications including drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other similar devices that require small, lightweight, and accurate motion sensing. It uses a combination of static and dynamic zero-V bias compensation to detect small angular rate signals with exceptional accuracy and reliability.
The application fields and working principle of the ADIS16260BCCZ can be explained in terms of the following two components: the ASIC and the Mechano-Electric sensing element. The ASIC controls the supply current to the mechano-electric sensing element and is the main component that performs the signal processing of the sensed angular rate. The mechano-electric sensing element is a stationary proof mass which is released when the angular rate changes and generates an electrical signal in the form of a voltage that is proportional to the angular rate and processed by the ASIC.
The working principle of the ADIS16260BCCZ is based on Coriolis effects. When the proof mass is disturbed by an outside angular force, it is subject to Coriolis force, which causes it to vibrate in a resonant frequency given by the electromechanical properties of the proof mass. The vibration and its corresponding frequency are detected by the electromechanical transduction of the ASIC which amplifies and filters the signal. After the signal is processed, the angular rate is calculated and output via the digital serial port.
The ADIS16260BCCZ single-axis gyroscope is an ideal choice for applications that require high performance, small form factor and low power consumption. It is suitable for use in UAVs and drones, as well as in stabilizing applications, inertial navigation, robotics, gaming equipment and other consumer products where exact, fast and reliable motion sensing is required.
