The ADS5483EVM is a wide-bandwidth, multi-channel analog-to-digital converter (ADC) evaluation module, providing users with the conversion capability and flexibility of the ADS5483. The ADS5483 is an ultra-high-speed, 8-channel, 6-bit ADC, capable of throughputs up to 500Msps for a single channel and 250Msps for multiple channels. Additionally, the ADC offers superior accuracy and signal-to-noise-and-distortion (SNDR) performance.

The ADS5483EVM is a complete system, allowing users to measure the performance of the ADS5483. It contains a carrier board, aptly named the SPEC board, and an FPGA/DDR4 daughter board. The SPEC board supplies the FPGA/DDR4 board with the necessary power and interfaces. FPGA/DDR4 board allows interaction between the host computer and the ADS5483. The host computer can generate the various digital patterns needed to sample an analog input. The board features 50 single-ended analog input channels, and 40 single-ended analog output channels. It also contains 8 digital I/O channels, LVDS clock inputs and outputs, and conventional JTML/TTL inputs and outputs.

The ADS5483EVM operates in two modes. In normal mode, a digital signal is supplied to the FPGA/DDR4 board, which is then converted by the ADS5483, and the output is read from the digital outputs. In multiplexer mode, the analog input is routed to the multiplexer, and the analog output is routed to the digital outputs. The FPGA board contains software for configuring different modes of operation. Additionally, because of the communication interface between the host computer and the board, the board’s features and performance can be evaluated in real time.
