The working principle of the ADS5422Y/1K5 is based on a two-step conversion process. First, the analog signal is sampled and quantized by an undersampling, 10-bit digital switched-capacitor (SC) track and hold (T/H) with a 50 Mbps over-sampling rate. Then, in the second step, the 10-bit signals are improved to 12-bit digital input data, using an internal digital filter that acts as an oversampling filter with an interpolation factor of 4.
The ADC processes input signals through the following stages: input buffer amplifier (IBA), comparator, arithmetic-logic unit (ALU), interpolator, and finally, a 12-bit digital output latch. The ADC has an adjustable IBA of 0-6 dB of additional gain. An internal clock divider allows for clock frequencies above 500 MHz.
The outputs of the ADC are 12-bit CMOS digital data streams and differential analog outputs (DAC) on a connector. This allows for direct connection to other systems and components, allowing the user to make adjustments and changes without installing extra peripheral circuitries.
