The AO3160 metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) is a single-channel, silicon-based semiconductor device used in switching applications. It is well-suited for low-side switch applications such as embedded systems, power supplies, and motor control. The AO3160 utilizes a relatively simple architecture composed of a single n-channel MOSFET and several gate driver components integrated onto one silicon die.

The AO3160 offers superior power efficiency due to its low Gate-Source threshold voltage (VGS), typically -2.2V, which makes it highly suitable for low-side switching applications. Furthermore, its integrated gate driver provides the necessary high-side driver current. The AO3160 can also be used in switching applications to control the amount of current being supplied to a load. In this case, the Gate pin is connected to a voltage source. When a positive voltage is applied to the Gate, the MOSFET becomes more conductive and more current is allowed to flow through it. With increasing voltage, more current will pass through and therefore more power is delivered to the Load. The voltage applied to the Gate acts as a control signal and can be used to regulate the amount of current delivered to the Load. This makes the AO3160 highly suitable for use in power regulation applications.
