AOZ1280CI is a member of the DC-DC Switching Regulators, a type of the Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMIC) series. It is an advanced and highly integrated synchronous buck regulator that enabled both high efficiency (up to 96%) and cost-effective applications.
The main features and characteristics of the AOZ1280CI includes: excellent efficiency over a wide input voltage (up to 22V); low external component count, integrated LDOs and power field transistors; wide operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C; a 2500V ESD test range; and fixed frequency current mode control.
The AOZ1280CI is designed for 16V to 22V voltage input and operates under 2.5A continuous load, with 4 pins and a maximum load current of 2.8A. It provides a soft-start, adjustable thermal and short-circuit protection, as well as the output voltage can be freely set at 0.8V to 3.5V. AOZ1280CI is definitely an ideal solution for all types of consumer electronics, including cell phones, PDAs and digital cameras.
The working principle of the AOZ1280CI is based on a buck voltage conversion, with two MOSFETs in series as the switching devices, a current-mode control IC and an ON/OFF control circuit with an ON/OFF control terminal. During ON state, the lower MOSFET is turned on by the gate current and connects the input voltage with the inductor. This causes the side of the MOSFETs to be loaded with the inductor current, which gradually increases.
The gate current of the lower MOSFET is controlled so as to maintain the inductor current at the same level. Meanwhile, the voltage between the source and gate of the MOSFET decreases, which causes the gate to open. As the energy stored in the inductor gradually flows into the output capacitor, the output voltage increases.
When the lower MOSFET is turned off, the current in the inductor decreases, which causes the MOSFET to be in the OFF state. As the current decreases, the voltage between the source and gate rises, and the gate of the upper MOSFET is turned on. This causes the energy stored in the inductor to be transferred to the output capacitor, which reduces the output voltage.
For each state of the MOSFET switches, the voltage refection ratio is kept at a constant level, in order to reduce the output ripple and control the output accurate output voltage and current. This ensures that the AOZ1280CI can be used in applications that require high accuracy, such as in mobile phones, game consoles and digital cameras.
