The ATSAM4E16EA-AUR is a highly integrated low power Cortex-M4 microcontroller from Atmel which is particularly suitable for applications in the embedded industry. The microcontroller is an advanced 32-bit embedded microcontroller with an ARM Cortex-M4 core with FPU and a rich set of system modules. The on-chip modules provide an extensive range of peripherals including up to 80 MHz clock, 2D graphics support, LCD/RGB display support, 1KB SRAM/ROM/EEPROM, CAN and USB, as well as modem communication.
The microcontroller is substantially different from its predecessors in terms of packaging, pin configuration, and feature set. The microcontroller incorporates a 48-Pin LQFP package with all of its pins assigned for use, providing for an impressively small embeddable solution with a wide range of application possibilities. The package also includes on-chip EEPROM, SRAM, and ROM to provide a flexible and powerful set of system modules as well as great flexibility in designing your applications.

Working Principle
The ARM Cortex-M4 processor core from Atmel is based on the well-known architecture used in various microcontrollers such as the ATSAM4L, ATSAM4S, and ATSAMA5. The core includes a 32-bit RISC ISA, advanced vector arithmetic to deliver fast, efficient computing performance over a range of instruction sets including floating point, SIMD, and DSP capabilities. The core is clocked at up to 80 MHz and implements a full featured memory subsystem supporting different types of bus architectures, as well as robust on-chip debug/trace modules.
Since the ATSAM4E16EA-AUR Cortex-M4 microcontroller incorporates a powerful ARM Cortex-M4 processor core with FPU, the core provides excellent control capabilities, including several instruction sets, real-time clock, flash and bootloader support, serial communications (UART, I2C, CAN, etc.), powerful software development tools and libraries, as well as numerous digital input and output pins (some of them on board) providing full I2C, SPI, and CAN bus connectivity.
