Working Principle
The ATSAME70Q21B-CN microcontroller implements a multi-layer bus matrix for its on-chip communication which is called eXtended External Bus Matrix (XEM). The XEM connects all system components, such as processor core, embedded memories and peripherals. Every component is connected to the bus matrix with a slave interface, allowing multiple peripheral access to the system bus with just one request. This allows multiple independent peripheral access to different system components without blocking each other.
The core itself is the ARM Cortex-M7, a high-performance processor-core which offers three stages of pipelining for maximum throughput, improved performance and worst-case cache misses. The core also supports up to 256 KB of On-Chip flash memory and 256 kB of SRAM memory. It also offers two internal clock domains: system and peripheral.
On top of the high-speed processor core, the ATSAME70Q21B-CN has various peripherals, such as 10/100 Mbps Ethernet MAC, Quad SPI, High Speed USB 2.0 On-The-Go, an Analog to Digital Converter, Direct Memory Access Controller, Capacitive Touch Controller, General Purpose Timers, and a 16-Channel pulse width Modulator. All these components can be used to create a variety of embedded systems.
Lastly, the ATSAME70Q21B-CN comes with safety features for reliable operation, such as a Watchdog Timer, Debug Joystick and Dual Data Transfer Unit.
