BA17815FP-E2 is a voltage regulator of PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear. It is a three-pin positive voltage regulator designed for power supply and regulator applications. Working Principle:

The BA17815FP-E2 is a shunt-type three-terminal voltage regulator with an operating voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V, and a quiescent current of typically 5 μA. The output voltage is adjustable to a maximum value of about 16V, depending on the input voltage. Output current is limited to 200mA.

A regulator uses a voltage divider between an internally generated reference voltage and an external resistor to establish the desired output voltage. To prevent output voltage oscillations due to changes in load current, output voltage is monitored and additional feedback is used to force the output voltage to track the reference voltage.

On the BA17815FP-E2, regulation is accomplished by the use of an emitter follower arrangement. The base voltage of the emitter follower is set by the voltage divider, and the collector current is sensed by the error amplifier. This arrangement reduces the output impedance while still providing excellent line and load regulation.

The output voltage of the BA17815FP-E2 can be adjusted by connecting either a fixed resistor or a potentiometer between the base and the output terminal. With a fixed resistor, the output voltage can be set precisely, while a potentiometer allows the output voltage to be adjusted manually.

A compensating network is required for proper regulation. This network limits the maximum current available from the regulator, reduces output impedance, and increases the power supply rejection ratio. The BA17815FP-E2 includes a simple series RC network in its compensation pin.

The BA17815FP-E2 includes an over-temperature protection circuit that disables the regulator if the internal temperature of the device exceeds a predetermined value.
