Working Principle

The BA17824CP-E2 is a P-channel MOSFET-based voltage regulator. It is able to regulate voltages as low as 0.2V with a dropout of approximately 0.15-0.2V. It is capable of running output voltages of 3.3V and can deliver up to 800mA of current. The regulator uses a P-channel MOSFET as the monitoring device, consisting of a fixed-resistor divider network and connected to the base of the transistor. When the input voltage rises to a higher level than the set reference voltage, the output of the voltage regulator is increased accordingly, maintaining the regulated output voltage.The control circuit monitors and adjusts the transistor’s current by using an protection device and voltage feedback comparator. If a fault is sensed, the protection device shuts down the transistor and the output voltage is reduced to its safe limit. At the same time, the circuit monitors the output current and uses an over current protection device to shut down the transistor and reduce the output current if it exceeds the value set by the regulation.The BA17824CP-E2 voltage regulator’s thermal protection feature senses the temperature near the P-channel MOSFET, and reduces the output current if the temperature exceeds the thermal protection limit. This reduces the power dissipation and the risk of damaging the transistor.
