The BQ24008PWPG4 is an integrated power management solution designed to enable fast and highly efficient charging of Li-ion batteries. This PMIC- Battery Chargers designed to minimize external components and enable smaller and thinner battery charger systems. With a high level of integration, the solution performs most of the functions required for Li-Ion battery charging applications.

The BQ24008PWPG4 is a switched mode battery charger for single cell Lithium-ion and Lithium-polymer batteries with input voltage up to 18V. The device implements a constant current/constant voltage (CC/CV) charge algorithm with programmable input current up to 1.5A and utilizes pulse charging to reduce power dissipation thus achieving high efficiency. The BQ24008PWPG4 is easy to implement with automatic charging with overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection, short circuit protection and thermal regulation.

The BQ24008PWPG4 works by using a four-point input current regulation system that is tailored to best match the applications\' power requirements. This system is designed to automatically configure an input current that is normally below the charger’s maximum capability. By operating at a lower input current (I AC ) the system will reduce the overall power consumption of the application.

The BQ24008PWPG4 supports two different operating modes, Boost Mode and Pulse-Skip Mode. In boost mode the device charges with a constant current/constant voltage (CC/CV) charge algorithm. In this mode the device will automatically reduce the input current as theta increases and the battery approaches 100%. In pulse-skip mode, the device operates in a series of short bursts of constant current followed by longer periods of rest. This reduces power dissipation, resulting in higher overall efficiency.

The BQ24008PWPG4 includes a variety of features which make the product ideal for battery charging applications. The device includes an adjustable input voltage limit and adjustable input current limit, which allows the user to tailor the power input requirements to their application’s requirements. The charger also features an over temperature and overvoltage protection as well as optional cell balancing capability.
