The BQ24401DRG4 PMIC – Battery Charger is a multi-functional, highly-integrated battery charging device for fast and accurate charge control in lithium-ion battery systems. It is a single-chip solution that features all the necessary components to facilitate a rapid, safe, and energy efficient charge profile with programmable, overvoltage protection and maximum current limitation.The BQ24401DRG4 offers the most highly integrated, versatile and robust solution for Lithium-ion or Lithium-polymer charger applications. The high level of integration of the device eliminates the need for any external power FETs, inductors, or high current sense components and provides a simple, low component count solution with an efficient small form-factor design. As such, it enables advanced protection features and high accuracy charging algorithms which guarantee a safe battery charging process.The BQ24401DRG4 is suitable for low power applications such as cell phones, tablet PCs, or other portable consumer electronics, where current draw needs to be minimized. The main features include adjustable charge current from 100mA to 2A, adjustable termination voltage from 1.26 to 4.3V, adjustable charge enable/disable, adjustable charge current and charge enable/disable, and adjustable safety timer. When connected to the battery cell and properly set, the BQ24401DRG4 will initiate charge process and complete under type C control with pre-programmed parameters. Furthermore, two PWM signals control the current and voltage for fast, safe, and efficient charge profile. In addition, BQ24401DRG4 features an intelligent thermal protection system that reduces the charge current to prevent overheating and extends the charge cycle duration.Moreover, BQ24401DRG4 has been designed to perfectly integrate with the battery pack, providing a totally integrated system solution, with high efficiency and compact size. The buck-boost architecture works with positive and negative adaptive voltage, while the constant current / constant voltage (CC/CV) charging algorithm delivers a highly accurate, low-ripple, safe, and efficient charge profile. The maximum charging current can be adjusted using external resistor and its accuracy is 2.5% with 12-bit ADC.By incorporating its many enhanced features, the BQ24401DRG4 provides a solution for more efficient and flexible power management for lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery charging applications. It features a wide input voltage range from 0V to 18V, enabling the charger to be used on multiple types of devices and make it an ideal solution for those applications. Combining various features such as over-voltage protection, current limitation, fast-charge schemes, and efficient charging for high-power batteries, it is a smart, efficient, and reliable battery charger device.
