BQ24450DW is a single-chip synchronous step-down battery charger IC that offers a wide range of power supply solutions. Developed by Texas Instruments, the BQ24450DW can charge single-cell, dual-cell, and even Lithium-ion batteries with efficiency up to 92%. It is ideally suited for applications such as portable and/or hand-held audio, automotive, and medical devices requiring advanced power management solutions.

The BQ24450DW has two outputs: an integrated switch-mode battery charger and a low-dropout voltage regulator. The switch-mode charger can accept an input voltage range of 3V to 6V for charging and the low-dropout regulator provides 4V to 25V of output voltage with high efficiency levels. The integrated programmable charge voltage range is from 2.5V to 4.3V for Li-ion batteries and 0.3V to 6.5V for other rechargeable battery types. The BQ24450DW also includes a variety of protection features, including overvoltage protection, thermal regulation, and short-circuit protection.

The BQ24450DW has three charge current settings: ICHG1 (low current setting), ICHG2 (medium current setting), and ICHG3 (high current setting). These settings are adjustable using either external pins or via an I2C compatible interface. The IC also has an adjustable pre-charge or trickle charge current that can be programmed using either external pins or the I2C interface. The maximum charge current is 3.8A.

The BQ24450DW also features an integrated low-dropout regulator (LDO) that is ideal for applications such as automotive, industrial, and medical devices. The internal LDO is a voltage regulator that provides a fixed output voltage when supplied with an input voltage greater than the output voltage.
