BZX85C10 R0G Application Field and Working PrincipleThe BZX85C10 R0G is a Single Zener Diode rated at 10V and 2W. It is designed with a power dissipation rate of approximately 1W at a reverse voltage of 7V and a zener current of 7mA. This small devices however will provide large value as it is part of a circuit that is better suited for space-restricted applications.The BZX85C10 R0G is also commonly used in many consumer electronics such as LCD displays for contrast and color. This device features a 175mA current capability at 7V, with a typical zener voltage tolerance of ±2%. Other features include reverse surge capability up to 10 max, a compliance voltage of 5V and a breakover voltage of 5-6V. The BZX85C10 R0G has many advantages as it is specified with a very low temperature coefficient and is also designed with a wide temperature range of -55 to +125 degrees Celsius. This makes the device suitable for a wide range of operating temperature applications.As far as protection against out-of-tolerance voltage or current, the device can protect the circuit against high voltage by clamping dynamic power dissipation to a maximum of 1W and over-current protection with a junction temperature of 175°C. This small size device also can fit into very tiny spaces while providing efficient power dissipation.The working principle of the BZX85C10 R0G is based on Ampere’s law which states that a current is generated when a magnetic field is applied to a conductor. When a voltage is applied to the device, it’s magnetic field causes electrons to flow in one direction. This causes the diode to become a rectifier. If the voltage is greater than the zener voltage the diode remains a rectifier but if it is lower than the zener voltage then the diode will act as a Zener diode, allowing current to flow in both directions and limit the voltage passed through the device. In summary, the BZX85C10 R0G is a single Zener diode designed to offer space-saving protection and efficient power dissipation in consumer electronics. It is capable of a maximum reverse voltage of 10V and with its wide temperatures range, it can be used in a variety of applications.
