Optoisolators - Transistor, Photovoltaic Output

The CNY1713S is an optoisolator, or an optical coupler. This device is used for transmitting electrical signals in a noisy or hazardous environment while isolating the two electrical circuits. It is a particularly effective tool for protecting low-voltage electronic circuits from high voltage environments. With CNY1713S, electrical signals are transmitted over optical signals, which are then converted back to their electrical form inside the chip. This effectively isolates the electrical circuit from the power source that may induce noise or dangerous electrical spikes.This optoisolator is designed as a transistor, photovoltaic output. This means that it consists of a light-emitting diode (LED) that sends out an optical signal of light. The light signal is then intercepted by a photosensitive component, such as a photodiode or phototransistor, which then converts the light signal back into an electrical signal. This electrical signal is then used to drive an output component, such as a Field-Effect Transistor (FET) or another transistor. This allows for the secure transmission of a digital signal to a more isolated circuit while providing galvanic isolation.This technology provides added protection against interference caused by power fluctuations, electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference (RFI) and electric field radiation, making it ideal for communication and signal transmission for a variety of industries. These include medical and industrial applications, automobiles and aerospace engineering, where a higher level of safety is required.The CNY1713S also offers a wide working voltage range of 16 to 180 volts and its package size is very small. It has a low voltage dropout of 1.6V at 10mA load current and a maximum dark current of 200 nA. The device also features high transfer efficiency, good linearity of the current transfer characteristic, wide common mode transient immunity range, excellent isolation properties and low profile.The CNY1713S is applicable to many applications, including transducer signal conditioning, such as flow meters, pressure sensors and temperature detectors, and also in general purpose isolation, single-ended signal transmission and data communication.
