<h3> Optoisolators - Transistor, Photovoltaic Output </h3><p>The CNY173S consists of an infrared light emitting diode (LED) optically coupled to a silicon photovoltaic device in a very small available optically coupled package. This optocoupler provides electrical insulation between input and output circuits while operating up to a direct current (dc) voltage difference of 5,000 V rms.</p><p><strong>Application Field</strong></p><p>The CNY173S is especially suited for high reliability requirements. The high performance and durability of the CNY173S make it ideal for removal of digital and analog signal isolation. The CNY173S can be used in digital circuits, computer peripheral interface circuits, power supplies, medical devices and other applications requiring high isolation voltage and/or fast switching speed.</p><p><strong>Working Principle</strong></p><p>The operation of the CNY173S begins when the LED is illuminated either with a direct current or an alternating current. Under this condition, the LED generates a small current which is converted by the photovoltaic device into an output voltage.</p><p>The internal insulation of CNY173S is a dielectric material, which will cause a comparatively high voltage drop between the input and output circuits. This voltage drop makes it necessary to specify a minimum input voltage for this device. In addition, the junction capacitance of photovoltaic device increases with higher input voltage.</p><p>The output voltage of CNY173S is proportional to the LED characteristic input current. This input current should not exceed a maximum value specified in the operating conditions. The minimum and maximum output voltage and current are limited by the operating conditions.</p><p>The CNY173S has a built-in output resistor which functions as a current limiting feature. This resistor also ensures a fast current rise time and an accurate current limitation in the LED.</p><p>The CNY173S offers the combination of high isolation voltage and accurate signal isolation with fast response time. The isolation voltage rating of the CNY173S is 5,000 V rms. It has a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.</p><p>The CNY173S is an excellent choice for applications where the conditions may be demanding.
