Optoisolators, or optocouplers, are optoelectronic devices used to isolate two signals from one another while providing level shifting capabilities. The CNY17F1 optocoupler is a 4-pin transistor photovoltaic output device engineered for applications requiring a high level of galvanic isolation between input and output. This device comes packaged in a 4-pin DIP with a viewing window attached to the package.

The internal component of the CNY17F1 includes an infrared LED coupled with a phototransistor. The LED’s light current will be converted into a current in the phototransistor in order to produce a voltage drop between the collector and emitter. Utilizing this technology, the CNY17F1 isolates the output voltage from the input voltage. This isolation provides strong protection from electrical signals that could cause damage or disruption to a circuit.

The CNY17F1 offers an exceedingly high insulation resistance which can be as high as 10^9 ohms, and a minimum working voltage up to 3000V RMS, which far exceeds the requirements for many applications. The device also has a broad operation temperature of -40 to +85°C. In addition, the device also provides a typical response time of 5ms, with only 10ms maximum off times.

The CNY17F1 optocoupler also offers both high and low level led input threshold logic with a forward voltage of 1.4V and a maximum forward current of 20mA.
